Professor Julie J. Park spoke with Diverse: Issues in Higher Education about the recent dissolution of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, which had been established in 1999.

I think well have widespread consequences for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities, said Park, naming poverty, census counting and mental health as issues in these communities that she believes will now receive less attention.

Anytime you put the White House name on it, it amplifies it to another level, so that was helpful in legitimizing the concerns that people have been talking about for years and years that dont get a lot of attention, she said.
